Thousands of college students are homeless.

While millions of college students struggle to pay for their degree—many are also struggling to find a place to sleep each night.

In New York—where rents are soaring and many colleges do not guarantee housing—one 2019 study found that 22 14% of CUNY students had experienced homelessness at some point in the past year. Nationwide 13% of community college students 23 are homeless, showing how the costs of higher education go beyond tuition—and how earning a degree does not prevent someone from experiencing homelessness.
